RCSI Bahrain and the Rashid Al Zayani Charity Foundation launch a scholarship programme

The Rashid Al Zayani Charity Foundation has signed an agreement with the Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland - Medical University of Bahrain (RCSI Bahrain) to fund the studies of a number of Bahraini students so that they can become future leaders in healthcare.

Under the agreement, the Rashid Al Zayani Charity Foundation will support students studying medicine at RCSI Bahrain throughout their studies, with initial approval given for supporting three students per academic year. The students who benefit from the funding will be selected jointly by the two parties.

To benefit from this funding, candidates must apply to RCSI Bahrain and to the Rashid Al Zayani Charity Foundation at the same time and meet the minimum admission requirements set by the university for the year of admission in question.

The agreement was signed by the President of RCSI Bahrain, Professor Sameer Otoom, and the Deputy Chairman of the Board of the Rashid Al Zayani Charity Foundation, Hamed bin Rashid Al Zayani, during a meeting held on the university campus in Busaiteen.

The signing of this agreement represents the latest of RCSI Bahrain's initiatives to provide support for students on the medical programme, and reflects the far-sighted vision of both parties in strengthening the national programme for the quality of healthcare.

On this occasion, the university's Chief Operating Officer, Stephen Harrison-Mirfield, thanked the Higher Education Council of Bahrain for its support in making this initiative a reality, and said: "This agreement gives talented Bahraini students the opportunity to study and develop as future leaders in healthcare at a university proud of a rich heritage going back more than 200 years. At the same time, students will receive outstanding support from the Rashid Al Zayani Charity Foundation with their tuition fees and with their personal growth and development."

For his part, Omar Abdulaziz Ayoub, director of the Rashid Al Zayani Charity Foundation, expressed his gratitude to RCSI Bahrain and the Higher Education Council for helping to bring this programme to life, and said: "We are proud to sign this agreement with an institution as distinguished as RCSI Bahrain. One of our main goals at the Rashid Al Zayani Mabara is to give outstanding young people in Bahrain the opportunity to achieve their ambitions and to contribute to serving their community, and we believe this programme brings us closer to that goal."

RCSI Bahrain is part of the Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland, founded in 1784, and is licensed in the Kingdom of Bahrain as an independent private university. Like its counterpart in Ireland, RCSI Bahrain is a not-for-profit health sciences institution focused on education and research to drive positive change in all areas of human health throughout the world.

For its part, the Rashid Al Zayani Charity Foundation aspires to be a leading foundation in the field of charitable work, and strives with confidence to be a distinguished model of charitable work and sustainable development in the community to which it belongs.
