Rashid Al Zayani Mosque has announced the launch of a centre for teaching Arabic calligraphy, which will offer its services free of charge to all who are interested, men and women alike. The aim is to preserve the art of Arabic calligraphy in its authentic form and to increase the number of citizens skilled in it, following a pilot phase in which 20 citizens took part in learning Diwani script.
Arabic writing is distinguished by being cursive, which makes it capable of taking on many beautiful geometric forms. Through the ages this art has been used to decorate mosques and palaces and to write copies of the Holy Quran. The centre will teach all the Arabic scripts, from Kufic and Ruq'ah to Thuluth, Naskh and a range of others.
On this subject, Omar Abdulaziz, director of the Rashid Al Zayani Charity Foundation, expressed his pride that the Rashid Al Zayani Mosque centre is always first to offer programmes that benefit the people of the area and neighbouring areas, working with them to develop their abilities alongside the mosque's main purpose of caring for the religious side of life.
Registration for the programme is open to everyone through the mosque's Instagram page or the mosque's website www.rzquran.com
